In line with our Okuma Monozukuri philosophy, Okuma Australia & New Zealand wish to announce the appointment of Mr Karl Medley as Manager for Okuma New Zealand, based in Auckland.

Karl’s appointment follows the retirement of Fred de Jong, General Manager - NZ. Fred retired from Okuma at the end of June 2024 after an exceptional 25 years leading Okuma New Zealand and 48 years with the Okuma brand.

“Fred’s tenure with the Okuma brand has been outstanding, having significant involvement for the 400+ Okuma machines that are installed across New Zealand. It is certainly an impressive effort, and we thank him for his dedicated service to our brand!” said Dean McCarroll, Managing Director, Okuma Australia + New Zealand.

Karl Medley comes to us with a wealth of Management and Machine Tool sales experience within the New Zealand manufacturing industry. Originating from the UK, working for some very well-known, premier UK brands in the manufacturing industry, Karl and his family immigrated to New Zealand over 12 years ago, quickly making a name for himself in the local New Zealand manufacturing industry.

“Okuma CNC machines are certainly the pinnacle in our industry, and after a short hiatus in management for a manufacturing business, I’m thrilled to rejoin the machine tool sales sector. I am eager to get started and further my career and contribute to such a well-connected global business,” said Karl Medley, Manager Okuma New Zealand.

This new appointment creates an opportunity for an additional Service Engineer to join the NZ team based in Auckland, to further enhance our customer support across this extensive NZ market.

We are therefore thrilled to announce Mr Rodel Estoya has also joined our Okuma New Zealand team. Rodel has strong service experience and knowledge on many CNC machine tool brands including Okuma and this will be a strong benefit to our large New Zealand customer-base.

Dean McCarroll Managing Director, Okuma Australia and New Zealand said “We are delighted to welcome Karl Medley who comes with a strong skill set to lead the New Zealand team into a new phase. He is supported with a very strong and experienced team with Ian Cox, South Island Manager responsible for service, applications and new machines, Terry Barber as customer liaison officer with almost 20 years of service within Okuma in administration, shipping and accounts and the recent addition of experienced Service Engineer in Rodel.”
